Li Yu (936-978) was last emperor of the Southern Tang. Deposed, he died a prisoner in someone else’s kingdom but not before penning a range of poems concerning court life, its amorous adventures, the delicacy of nature and the cruelty of fate. This volume is divided between translations and variations/responses to the poetry of Li Yu.
