著者简介

库切

1940年生于南非开普敦，荷兰裔移民后代。成长于南非种族隔离政策逐渐形成并盛行的年代。1960年离开南非赴伦敦，从事电脑软件设计。1965年到美国攻读文学博士。1971年回到南非，在开普敦大学英文系任教。2001年移居澳大利亚。现系美国芝加哥大学“社会思想委员会”成员，并在该校执教。主要作品有《等待野蛮人》（1980）、《迈克尔・K的生活和时代》（1983）、《彼得堡的大师》（1994）、《童年》（1997）、《耻》（1999）、《青春》（2002）、《伊丽莎白・科斯特洛：八堂课》（2003）等。库切曾获得包括布克奖在内的多种文学奖项，并于2003年荣膺诺贝尔文学奖。

The magistrate was a lie that the Empire tells itself when times are easy.A veiled version of placid and tranquil life,a life that he wishes to live forever without disturbance.But Coetzee wouldn’t allow that,history neither.He has no choice but be put into a moral dilemma.He is actually part of what he becomes against.Humanity is so fragile.

3.5/5.0 感觉库切早期和后期的作品思想上还是有很大不同的 2016.5.27 先前的评价有失公允这部作品在形式上还是很有深度可以探索的可以说其思想体现在形式上远甚过内容

JCS里犹大损JC是“jaded mandarin"，感觉就是这本书里old magistrate这样的。库切之前作品里的Master/slave关系在这本书里有了有趣的twist。
