全书很短，书中的Keating比同名电影中的塑造的鸡丁老师，还要激进一些。主题极具争议性。鸡丁老师的行为到底是蛊惑人心的鼓励学生反叛的教唆，还是让学生勇敢地追求生命中激情的鼓励。他到底是黑暗中独醒之人，还是溺亡中拖人下水的looser，他到底是大彻大悟之人，还是一个被社会抛弃边缘人？缺乏激情追求更好的生存，是不是就是虚度此生？短暂而激烈的燃烧，才能是真正的生存？人生的意义从来都不是客观存在的，而是我们赋予的。
