My first espionage novel. Quite satisfying. Nothing James-Bondyish, yet you just can't drop it. The most impressive thing about this book is that there's hardly a plot to follow. One thing just happened after another that before you've realized what was going on at all, it already spelled la fin. As always, the subtle humor once again prevails.

读得很累，贪便宜下载的版本最后部分还章节错乱，但是错乱部分剔除也能完章，证明叙事还是有点冗长？精髓都在对话中，每个人的形象由字词、语气塑造。Percival的冷血、Muller的阴狠、Daintry的忧愁、Davis天真却被陷害的无辜宿命感以及书店老板Sr的刀锋暗藏。与此相比，Castle的形象却很模糊，只有"希望Sam不要像自己"的告白泄露对现世自我的厌弃(读完遗漏部分对他的不能自拔加深了理解)。Sarah和Sam作为光明象征却不及Davis捉迷藏更让人心痛，作为反种族隔离apartheid的政治符号比作为人的形象更鲜明。逃至苏联后的黯然无望是根据Philby采访写的吗？因为个人恩仇而非意识形态作卧底，Castle只有在妻与子身上才能找到心灵的归属，铁幕两边的世界都无处容身。
