著者简介

Thi Bui was born in Vietnam and immigrated to the United States as a child. She studied art and law and thought about becoming a civil rights lawyer, but became a public school teacher instead. Bui lives in Berkeley, California, with her son, her husband, and her mother. The Best We Could Do is her debut graphic novel.

读完的第一本英文小说，虽然是graphic novel，一个很好的开始。Thi的父母真的真的太不容易了，能活下来去美国，与好运以及资源，还有家族积累都密不可分，作者也通过写这本书，更理解了父母，喜欢这种跨越时空的故事，时间上有战争做标记，空间上从越南到美国，跨越山海，喜欢。

虽然很好，但没有超出我期待视阈的一本书。加上亚裔历史经历过于相似了，其实是可以relatable，但我真的对personal memoir倒向sentimental writing style（包括图画）怀有偏见。虽然我哭了，但不代表这种我很喜欢。

This book bears an important subject matter and has very beautiful illustrations chronicling the author's family during the turbulent years of the Vietnam War as well as the sacrifices they have made in order to start a new life in another country. However, the problem of this book for me lays with the format, which is limiting and confusing.
