Born in the "agrarian ghetto" of Dickens--on the southern outskirts of Los Angeles--the narrator of The Sellout resigns himself to the fate of lower-middle-class Californians: "I'd die in the same bedroom I'd grown up in, looking up at the cracks in the stucco ceiling that've been there since '68 quake." Raised by a single father, a controversial sociologist, he spent his childhood as the subject in racially charged psychological studies. He is led to believe that his father's pioneering work will result in a memoir that will solve his family's financial woes, but when his father is killed in a police shoot-out, he realizes there never was a memoir. All that's left is the bill for a drive-thru funeral.

Fueled by this deceit and the general disrepair of his hometown, the narrator sets out to right another wrong: Dickens has literally been removed from the map to save California from further embarrassment. Enlisting the help of the town's most famous resident--the last surviving Little Rascal, Hominy Jenkins--he initiates the most outrageous action conceivable: reinstating slavery and segregating the local high school, which lands him in the Supreme Court.

一句话里有十个形容词那种但很chill

妈呀读的真累，好多细节没懂，也不想去弄懂了，开始都得很有兴趣，然后越读越累，也没了娱乐性了，就是讽刺美国黑人不公的处境的，文化不熟悉，感情不共鸣，但又莫名觉得写得不错

虽然有很多因为背景知识空白和单词量的苍白没太明白也不影响我觉得这是本好书。种族话题并不鲜见但第一次读到用反向歧视的角度来展开很尖锐但却幽默非常幽默用看似不可能的情节来揭示种族歧视的消失只是幻想（黑人发起隔离运动黑人因为蓄奴被送上最高法院）。栩栩如生的每个人不断有发人深省的诘问。有中文版我一定再读一遍。

5%黑色幽默吧，对美国的文化了解不够，少了共同记忆，很难读 30% 之前体力不济，现在慢慢读顺了 80% 每天一章稀里哗啦的笑一笑，喜欢人物及夸张又真实的刻画，没有答案不给vision 85% 看这书老会想起一网络语，圈子不同不必强融????100% 争吵确实无益，但生活也确实虚无但趣味横生
