The Aesthetic Brain takes the reader on a wide-ranging journey through the world of beauty, pleasure, and art. Chatterjee uses neuroscience to probe how an aesthetic sense is etched in our minds and evolutionary psychology to explain why aesthetic concerns feature centrally in our lives. Along the way, Chatterjee addresses fundamental questions: What is beauty? Is beauty universal? How is beauty related to pleasure? What is art? Should art be beautiful? Do we have an instinct for art? Chatterjee starts by probing the reasons that we find people, places, and even numbers beautiful. At the root of beauty, he finds, is pleasure. 自己关于审美的book chapter都发表了竟然才把这书读完。少说专业扯点闲淡：还原论毕竟还是能增添全新且有趣的知识，但对于论题本身往往不能称为conclusive——可能正因为如此，我才一直拒绝做一个纯粹的理工猪，而情愿与文科狗们为伍

书的结构框架清晰，问题意识很强，作为科学家的作者实验数据证明拿来就用，对于门外汉的我颇不适应，分析了art,beauty,pleasure等产生和关系，而这源于一次画展，且听作者娓娓道来，85+

Chatterjee对审美这个重要却常被忽视的概念进行了广泛的探讨，从身体之美，语言之美，到数学之美；从对于食物，性的享乐到对于金钱的欲望，作者解构并重新定义了审美以及对于审美为何存在的这个问题提供了新的视角。唯独遗憾之处在于作为一本和美有关的作品，Chatterjee的语言显得过于单调，一些实证研究和案例的引用也显得过于重复。

这本书的内容虽然不深，但最好了解一点神经科学的基础（比如《心思大开》和《生物心理学》）后再看，不然可能有点难读，演化心理学倒是懂不懂都无所谓，书里解释得非常详细。有点像九九乘法表，虽然依然是初级数学，但不先学会加减法的话理解起来可能会比较吃力。书里很多观点...
