A divorced, middle-aged English professor finds himself increasingly unable to resist affairs with his female students. 也许是因为我没深入去读，总之，不及想象中震撼

包罗万象的故事。从城市到乡村，grace 到 disgrace, 历史走过一个圈，文明被生之欲打碎。或贪生，或贪爱，David 和我们的窘境，是成不了 Teresa, 又不甘沦落为狗，于是陷在 honour 的泥淖。由 Lucy 的故事联想到社会背景相似的南非版朱莉小姐，白女主黑男仆间的对峙，阶层差如玻璃之隔，种族似墙，性别却是山。

评分困难。剧情设定都是南非太熟悉的真实场景，文字简洁故事性高。但人物完全无法喜欢起来，所有人的行动都不能理解和认同。上一本刚读完生命中无法承受之轻，下意识地就把David跟Tomas对比了，同样都是womanizer，面对public prosecution时也都选择了避开而不愿屈服，但Tomas就讨人喜欢多————了。看完这本就是一肚子气，因为真实地过分所以简直想踹所有人物一脚（。
