只叙述而不做评论，着重细节，让读者自己明白到底是怎么回事。比如开头跟对面二楼的人对拍，斯坦贝克只写了可能是摆弄摄影器材的人，读完后想起来，才觉得那人应该就是监视他们的克格勃。很多地方都描写超级有趣，活灵活现，印象深刻的就是海关官员盖章的情景、大吃大喝的早餐。。

翻译得好烂。

斯坦贝克有狗，喜欢在车库收集垃圾。对自动贩卖机和一次性用品，塑料用品感到不安，随时有乡愁。看他的游记总在段落间想起辐射世界。
