对英国本土英语影响最大的，应该是爱尔兰的诗性传统与美国英语的形成。前者是无穷无尽的想象力，后者是无边无际的勇气。 诗人欧阳昱的译笔有翻译者少有的果断，对一些概括性、引领性词汇的翻译命名颇有趣味，也许此中的精神恰恰符合了英语自身的变化。  

*** 由于英语的“入侵”，瑞典出现了瑞典式英语（Swinglish）， 如Bye-bye变成了Baj baj， 瑞典也有人责怪英语“腐蚀了”瑞典语，作者说：人们总是因为社会的变化，归咎语言的变化。喊着英语电视节目入侵的那些人，或许是在发泄对于瑞典社会发展变化的不满。“抱怨语言就和抱怨...

其实翻译的水平还是可以的，这本书也是英语史著作中最通俗的一本，David Crystal也推荐过。不过有点Anglo-saxon中心论。我更喜欢John Mcwhorter的野史版。
