柯律格在物質文化研究上的集中體現，基本上最靠近標準藝術史的論述瞭。往後的著作，基本上都在瓦解已有的疆域，雖然有雄心壯誌，但讀著都不太對味，引用的資料太散，完全靠理論支撐整個論述，不能令人信服。

又重（細）讀瞭一遍，結閤Clunas言傳身教後更加能理解這種寫作方式的意義，意見如何閤理運用理論，確有高屋建瓴之感

受布迪厄影響下討論晚明的“長物”是用來維持文人身份，與商人作為區隔的重要因素，提到“趣味的發明”。同時，柯律格最擅長的是在中西比較的模式下，讓西方世界關注到中國，通過從“消費”而非“生産”入手，認為在資本主義未興起的晚明中國，即已有消費主義的模式。
