充斥其中misogyny不能否定这是部有技巧的好小说。读者们目眩神迷注视着怪异的"月亮"主角肆意人生，自然的忽略了几个面目被扭曲的"六便士"女人以及毛姆可鄙可怜的自我揭露。简单来说，同性恋在某些国家请别结婚，不然会变态的。

看完就理解为什么毛姆是三流作家了。情节一点都不引人入胜，就是把俗套桥段拼一下，用流水账的方式毫无起伏地叙述一下。最讨厌的一点是第一人称叙述的第三人称视角，显得特别自以为是，以至于所有角色都显得很做作。作为大溪地的旅游营销倒还不错。
